About Elysia
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Elysia trained as a classical ballet dancer for fifteen years and spent a year as a senior associate of the Australian Ballet School. She first fell in love with Salsa when a friend showed her a few steps to music at a party and the following week began taking classes! Elysia started training with Sharon Pakir at Spin City Dance (Melbourne, Australia) in 2008. Elysia brings her ballet background into her new Salsa art form as evident in her elegant styling and impeccably tight spins in her routines; this matched with her strong technique, fluid body movement and vibrant stage presence makes her one of Australia's finest new talents. Through her dancing Elysia has been involved in all the major congresses around Australia and has traveled all over the world including the New Zealand Salsa Congress, Malaysian Salsa Festival, Vietnam Salsa Festival and the Bali Salsa Fiesta. In 2010 Elysia flew to the New York City International Salsa Congress and performed a Salsa routine she learnt in six hours off the amazing Nelson Flores, an experience she still rates it as one of her best. Elysia also competes, performs and teaches with her dance partner Christian Szilagyi. In 2010 they placed 2nd in the Professional Division (On2) at the Victorian Salsa State Titles and 3rd at the Australian Salsa Classic (Nationals). Her most recent accomplishment was coming in 2nd Place at the 2011 Australian Salsa Solo Competition (Brisbane, Australia) amongst a field of Australia's best dancers. She was also placed 3rd in the Open Latin section with her Cha Cha solo, against a big field of teams and other soloists. Elysia teaches at Spin City Dance in Melbourne, specialising in Mambo (On2), Salsa On1, Cha Cha, Body Movement, & Ladies Styling. She is available for private lessons on request. |
